Mother Culture is on my list!
I do occasional refreshes too. My space is very small too and my dining room. I get it.
Just subscribed! Your son sounds alot like mine . We are also catholic and doing teach your child to read and handwritinf without tears .
Oh, awesome! Thanks for subscribing!
Wonderful ideas - thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Are you wearing a Benediict medal?
Yes.
@@simplelivingmama Are you Catholic, also?
Are these suggestions in addition to or separate from "Santa" presents?
I should have mentioned this in the video. My kids are getting older now, so I've found they focus way less on Santa than they used to. I think this is totally up to each family. In our family, Santa fills the stockings and brings one small gift, so these are suggestions in addition to. Santa gifts are fairly inexpensive and simple for us.
Your channel just popped up. My son is also a scout and for Easter this year, I bought him a new mess kit. His first one he had since he was a tiger in cub scouts so I felt he needed an upgrade, and last Christmas, he got a new sleeping bag because he barely fits in his old one now lol. He also got a new yeti water bottle last year for Christmas and now has all his camp stickers, etc on it lol. This year his troop just got new jackets so he is getting his jacket for Christmas. There is so much we can get them for scouting that I can usually find something for him, whether it’s a sleeping mat, new back pack, etc. all great gift options. I also home school so those are def things I look for as well. Thanks for sharing.
Oh, great ideas! Thanks for sharing!
Some great ideas here-props to you for managing 4x7 gifts plus stockings! I tried the extended version of the 4 gift rule last year (Make, Do, Share, Me) and still went over board. With lots of hand me downs and a well stocked library Wear and Read didn’t work for us. So this year were trying Paper Town Home’s ‘Head, Heart, Hands, Home’ concept. Still 4 gifts.
So interesting. I haven't heard of the "head, heart, hands, home" concept.
I run a kids book giveway at my job and i want to bless some families with some books for christmas
I love the book of centuries that you showed the best I’ve seen so far, because I love how it actually separates and labels time periods in history..so smart!!
I just thrifted a book haul of 194 books for 27 dollars for my book giveway at applebees( 3701 Veterans Memorial Blvd, Metairie, LA 70002). I am the host there. I have given away over 2900 books for babies kids teens and adults in 10 months. Let's get this generation reading❤😊😊
Do you happen to remember the name of the person who also uses the notebooks????
Yes, I linked to her video in the description. Homespun Childhood.
I have a brown suede that I cannot get rid of animal urine. Especially with the area under the cushion. I've spent 5 hours wjth a RugDoctor and only half has gotten out. What's the best steam cleaner to buy? Thanks.
Have you tried using an enzyme cleaner like Nature's Miracle? Test a spot on your couch first, and if it dries without staining, soak the urine stain with it. Let it dry, then you can use your upholstery cleaner. I use a Bissell carpet cleaner with an upholstery attachment, but any carpet cleaner with an upholstery attachment should work.
@@simplelivingmama Nature's Miracle was the BEST. Everything left! Best $6 I ever spent. Bought 3 of them. Won't use anything else.
I absolutely love UA-cam readalouds. So very useful for numerous reasons. Moms time, book avaliablity, finances etc.
I totally agree!
You pay tax (property, income, sales Etc). Why don't you use the schools, buses, that benefit you?
There are a variety of reasons a family may decide to homeschool, and I’m not going to get into my personal reasons in this comment section. I will say you can think of it like this, my taxes also pay for food stamps. I don’t use the food stamp program because I have another way to provide food for my family. I’m thankful the program exists and if I needed to use it, I would, but I can feed my family whatever I choose without any strings attached, so that’s what I’m going to continue to do. I’m also going to briefly mention something interesting. I know a lot of homeschoolers don’t agree with it because once you begin taking from government programs you’ll find you have less and less freedom, but many states are beginning to recognize educational freedom and some have implemented programs that allocate those tax dollars that would normally go to the school for a child to the parents of the child so they can choose to educate them as they see fit. I’m all about educational freedom and it’s refreshing to see some governments trying to honor that.
I’m making the switch for the same reason. I’m curious where you’d suggest moving to. We finished level 4 of tgtb and he did ok with the grammar but felt the writing lacked so we did start with writing a bit what should we start with for llft? I bought 4 and then got 5 because I couldn’t decide.
I would probably start with Level 4. Some things may be review, but the lessons are so short and easy and I don't think review is a bad thing!
Thank you!! This was super helpful as we are looking into Charlotte Mason for kinder next year. I took a ton of notes!
Awesome!
Could two students share this book? (Asking about if it’s consumable, not if the kids can share peacefully - I know they’ll hate that! 😂)
You can have them write their answers on a separate sheet of paper.
Thank you for your input. I'm looking forward to incorporating your advice into our timeline process.
Wonderful!
New subscriber! Yay someone else who uses Mater Amabilis!! I want to do the procedure lists for my son this year too. I love how you did it. I was going to make bookmarks and put the procedure and the reading on it but he constantly misplaces book marks. Lol This will work perfectly!
Awesome! The procedure lists really help keep the kids on track!
Get that brat to be quite.
That is not LORD JESUS on that so called bible..that is a sinful catholic man
So does this help children learn to read as well, like “ea” together makes the long “e” sound?
No, this is not a phonics curriculum.
Aren't you afraid of the essential oils staining the couch
I also have never been able to get through Little Women but I read Anne over and over again.
Would you say Mother Culture is good for any homeschooling mother, or is it best for those moms using Charlotte Mason curriculum?
Absolutely any homeschooling mother.
I’m so going to try this I’m going to use Avon skin so soft oil since I love that scent
I grew up on Avon skin so soft!
@@simplelivingmama it smells so wonderful right
Gary Paulsen has some great books for boys. He wrote a lot of adventure and wilderness books for children and young adults.
Yes! He has already requested more books by that author!
“I’m not doing that. I’m not putting labels on my kids.” 👏 🙌 So refreshing.
We also took a more Charlotte Mason approach last year. It has worked great for my children. We started with Heart of Dakota, very similar to MFW. Thank you so much for sharing.
That is awesome!
We did not need to purchase alot of new supplies either. Our purchases consisted of... *1 binder each *2 folders each *Pencils *Several packages of map pencils(colored pencils) *glue sticks *highlighters *dry erase markers It is nice to be able to build onto our supplies rather than replace everything each year.
Is there anyway you can list the books you have?
I found that helping your kids to love learning is to guide them into their interests. For example, my oldest daughter loves cooking and baking and will read blogs post about cooking and baking her book selection at the library is cooking books, and she applies what she learns with cooking and baking. She has become a talented cake decorator and has people putting orders for her cakes, cookies, and cheesecakes now. She also says she enjoys reading good books probably because I read a lot to her when she was little, she now will read a book and point out why it was a terrible read and how the language is bad. She has come to love good literature like Charles Dickens, C.S. Lewis, and T.R. Tolkien's books. She also says that she has learned so much in understanding history by reading books related to that particular historical period. My son reads lots of books about Botany and he applies what he reads by caring for his plants and garden. he wants his own plant nursery now. My older daughter likes art and music and reads books related to those topics. She also likes filmmaking and has made fun videos for her siblings to watch. I found that when you give your child more than the typical you must do this grade subject and turn to more focused interest-led learning and project-based learning then they want to learn more.
I put Karen Andreola's book on my wish list for my upcoming book haul purchase. Yes, my reading schedule has been whenever I get a chance to read. I like Christian Bible-based books but also a huge fan of historical fiction novels. I find reading to be enjoyable now that I am older.
It is hard for a full-time mom with lots of young children to take time for herself. I often struggle with this, but now trying to take care of myself by eating healthier, exercising, reading and meditating on scripture, and finding some time to read a good book. What are some good resources for how to train your kids for good habits especially the habits you read in the mother culture book? I often struggle with how to do this?
Have you read Laying Down the Rails from Simply Charlotte Mason? It is helpful with habit training.
Just stumbled upon your blog. Newly baptized catholic and about to homeschool my kindergartener. Thanks for sharing and God bless!
You are so welcome!
I totally understand what you mean by being distracted by the little kids when reading out loud. Love your binder idea. We are trying it out this coming school year for our oldest who’s 12. Just subscribed. I also have a channel mainly about homeschooling and happy to be able to connect here 😊
I’ll check out your channel!
@@simplelivingmama thank you so so much. That means a lot for our family!
Love hearing these tips. It’s definitely a juggle. Thanks for sharing.
It really is!
Great tips for homemaker's success! The dirty dishes piling up are an issue in my home. I thought I had the only problem with my kids eating up all our food. I have six kids and three of them our teenagers so food goes by fast in our house.
Yes, the food disappears so quick with a house full of growing kids!

I dont have habits..i cant get addicted to anything...i also don't have a home just shelter we are stuck at.
My machine is 30 years old! I'll try this. Thanks!
I just had the chance to read your ebook on once a month shopping. There are 3 of us and we all get paid on the 3rd every month. It's so hard to figure put a months worth of food. I tried to download the forms you offer in the ebook. It wasn't able to find the page. Can you send me a link? 😢 I really need them. We spent way too much money on food this last weekend. 250$ over budget. Yikes😮. And we weren't even hungry. 😅. Thank you for any help.
Did you get the eBook from my website? The forms are included at the end of the PDF of the eBook. You'd simply select just those pages to print. It will probably take a bit of trial and error to figure out just how much to purchase for the entire month, but once you figure it out it's very helpful!
Yes, please share the student binders. Thanks so much.
Coming soon!
Been feeling bleh about cooking. Thanks for some inspiration.
Can you share the link for the PDF for the lab printables you used for your younger kids please 😊
Hi, Does the student needs to input the the same information to both book of centuries and timeline?
This is what I wonder, as well.
After seeing the way you pointed out cupholders, well those seats by the sliding door don't have cupholders built in on it for them, and I can well remember this 1995 Ford Windstar my family and I once had in my childhood, and my brother was ooder than me, and I was the youngest with autism, and so pointing out those two bucket seats in the second row, or "captain's chairs," another term for bucket seats, he had the solid wall seat and I had the sliding door seat, and he never gave me a chance to choose which seat would be the right one for me, I should have gotten that opportunity, especially when I was autistic, which I still am and always will be, but as an older brother, he beat me to it, and my parents never spoke with him about it, so I had no choice but the sliding door seat, and part of being autistic was too much strength, so much that I got too hard and careless with the sliding door, and something my brother, as well as my parents, had that I didn't have was a cupholder, under no other choice, while my mom, dad, and brother were able to relax from their beverages sitting in those slots, I had to carry my cand in both hands, or one of them, and at times, I kept dropping them to the floor unintentionally because of my inability to grip hard enough, causing my dad to stop the van on the shoulder of the road, let my mom out, and have her clean up the mess, and with the can empty, I then had nothing to drink, causing me to get dehydrated, even my mom, dad, and brother had to share their beverages with me, and they weren't pleased about it, and because of those messes I made, there were times I refused to take pop cans with me so that they wouldn't scold me for spilling, and that's when I kept telling them over and over, but they didn't want to admit it or do anything about my problem, I was the only one in that van who was cupholderless, which wasn't my fault, it was their fault for not doing anything about it and scolding me for having a medical condition that I was born with, autism causing me to drop and spill my pop cans making a mess on the floor for not having a cupholder nearby to reach out to, so as a result to make sure it wouldn't happen again, as well as me struggling to improve on my part with being more careful with the sliding door, which my brother should have been the one doing instead of me, my parents bought me a portable console to put my pop cans into so I don't have to spill or hold cans in my hands anymore, it then made car rides in that van more relaxing, more fair, more convenient, more respectful, less annoying, and less stressful for me. Just because you're frustrated with your children with autism doesn't give you the right or an excuse to show aggression or intimidation to them. If they don't have what they need during car rides in certain cars, SUVs, or mini-vans, depending on the design of interior, then you should give them what they need, instead a hard time for lacking what's missing, help them out with it, and they'll be satisfied, which would also make you satisfied too, that's a problem with today's society, child neglect being more worse now than ever before, even more worse for those with autism than without. And it's also a good idea to drive something big and more spread out because of personal space invasions, when one child invades another child's personal space, that child having personal space being invaded will get very angry and aggressive at the one invading personal space on him/her. If you spread them out, there would be less of that kind of fighting, and they can ride in a more fairly civilized manner. Our 1995 Windstar got replaced by a 2000 Windstar, and it had two sliding doors, and after the way my brother used to climb over me, which I threw a fit at him for, it stopped so that we could get in and out on both opposite sides with two sliding doors, and both of them each had a button, so that I didn't have to open or close anymore, it could do it on it's own for me, and we also had a 1998 Ford Expedition and a 1993 Mercury Grand Marquis, the Expedition had a cupholder for me, and that was when I was able to use one for the first time when it was boight brand new, and our Grand Marquis was my paternal grandma's before she lived in an old folks home due to Alzheimer's, so it became my dad's car, but I had problems too, even before my little sister was adopted, the second row had no cupholders to begin with, and I was not pleased about it, so this hard plastic tray thay my dad once had in his 1991 Ford Explorer was put back there in the second row of the Grand Marquis for me and my brother, but when my sister was adopted, I wasn't happy about it because it got taken away just for my little sister, and even at times, I got mad at my sister in there for letting my dad take that tray and personal space away from me, and it happened a similar way in the second row of our Expedition, flipping those only two cupholders away for my little sister, and she was just as bad there as the Grand Marquis, and as a result, I had no choice but to hold my pop cans in my hands all over again, and at the same time, struggle to intervene my sister when she got into my space and kept touching me when she knew I hated being touched, and my parents refused to do anything about it, so I had to take matters into my own hands, I posted a sign on my bedroom door saying "NO LITTLE GIRLS ALLOWED!" to keep my sister out, and even added a drawing of my little sister and her ugly grin on her face with a big red 🚫 sign over her hideous ugly grin, and then called my maternal grandma on the phone, told her what happened, and what could have been done better to prevent that from happening, and we hing up so she could call back in a way my mom would answer, so my grandma spoke with her and my dad, and they weren't pleased about being exposed, and that unfair seating arrangement kept going until my mom asked me why I had that sign on my door prohibiting my sister's entry to my room, that was when she was willing to give me a chance to explain to her about that unreasonable seating arrangement in the Expedition and Grand Marquis, and the Grand Marquis didn't have a third row which I needed, at least the Expedition did, but my parents wouldn't let me use it, as for the Windstar, that third row had to be used because the second row was a separate pair of bucket seats for two children whem we had three, so since I needed space and sturdy cupholders on those solid walls on both sides, I got the third row, my older brother was more tolerant and less harassed anyways, so he stayed in the second row with her, and it finally went the same way in the Expedition when my dad reconfigured the second row to let me go to the third row, and with the only two cupholders of the second row reopened and reaccessed and my brother and sister on both opposite sides of the second row, I got privacy between two solid walls in the third row like the Windstar, and we stopped using the Grand Marquis as a group of five, and only used it when there was four or less of us, and the tray put back in over the lump in the second row, and life was fair, peaceful, stress free, and fight free. Yes, there's a phrase "Kids will be kids," but there's also "Parents will be parents" too, because there's more parents nowadays being neglectent to their children, and even more neglectent to those with autism than those without it, and so if any of your kids don't have cupholders when needed, go online, and find those portable consoles or trays out on Amazon, and if there's any who need personal space than others, set up seating arrangements to split those who need it from those who don't need it that bad. If that was me with a wife, multiple kids, and a van like that, that's what I would do, that's the only advice I can give you guys after what I went through from my past experience as a child with autism, hope you all understand.
Thx for sharing this! We too have a large family (6 kids) and have been thinking about getting a storage freezer for a long time for the same reasons you mentioned. Watching your video helps give me a better idea on what were looking for!
Glad it was helpful!
